Snow and ice blankets NC Foothills and Upstate SC

PAGELAND, S.C. – Snow blanketed most of the North Carolina Foothills to Upstate South Carolina Tuesday evening with bitter cold wind chills creating the potential for ice. Depending on who you ask, you’ll get mixed feelings about the snow.
“We were so excited the second we saw it falling, we loved it,” Elizabeth Gomez from Pageland said.
In Downtown Pageland, snow blows across the sidewalks but most of it wasn’t sticking around 7 Tuesday evening, some people hope it stays that way.
At Food Lion on East McGregor Street, WCCB saw people stocking up on supplies expecting to be snowed in. It’s been 25 years since Chesterfield County saw a record 12 inches of snow, this time around it won’t be as much.
“It’s something that we haven’t seen in a long time. So, I think it’s something beautiful for everyone to have a chance to step back from the rest of the world and just enjoy it,” Jalicia Allen from Pageland said.
Officials recommend staying off the roads. Crews from SCDOT have already taken steps to keep streets as clear as possible.
“Before we start to see impacts we do what we call anti-icing so it’s what you’re seeing in some portions of the state now where we have the trucks that are salt brining and salting the roadways and they’ll continue to do that until we start to see snow or ice. Then after that we move into our deicing operations,” Hannah Robinson from SCDOT said.
Even if the snow doesn’t stick, it’s cold enough for the roads to see some slick icy spots which could make for a messy commute.
