LGBTQ+ community reacts to Trump’s gender declaration

CHARLOTTE, NC — President Trump wasted no time minutes into his second term.
“As of today, it will henceforth be the official policy of the United States government that there are only two genders, male and female,” Trump said during Monday’s inauguration.
A big move that impacts a small amount of America’s population. Data from UCLA shows about 1.6 million Americans identify as transgender. That’s about 0.5% of the whole country. Paige Dula is outraged by the President’s declaration.
“It’s been fear, anger, um, sadness that, you know, feeling like so many in your country hate you just because of who you are without even knowing you,” explained Dula.
As former LGBTQ+ Charlotte advocate, Dula, calls this an attack on the youth.
“I mean, they’re literally attacking kids and they’re the the least equipped to deal with this added kind of stress,” Dula said.
In an op-ed, the ACLU writes “the trans community is understandably fearful of what lies ahead”. Going on to write “we have no choice but to be ready to fight and we will—in court, in legislatures, in our local communities.”
The executive order also states that visas, passports, and employee documents will adhere to the new federal law. That means an X on a passport is no longer allowed. Reversing an executive order by the Biden 3 Administration years ago. One step forward, two steps back for the trans community.
