NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) -- Courtney Waters, a former Charleston County school board member, is projected to win the Democratic primary for a seat in the South Carolina House representing District 113. Waters earned nearly 70% of the vote in Tuesday's special primary election, defeating state Democratic Party Third Vice Chair Michelle Brandt and realtor Kim Clark, according to unofficial results from the Charleston County Board of Voter Registration and Elections. "I’m honored by everyone who came out and supported my campaign today," Waters said after her win. "We proved that the people of 113 are ready for a practical leader who will fight for this district everyday." The special election comes after former state Rep. Marvin Pendarvis resigned from the seat in September amid an ongoing investigation into his law practice. Pendarivs did not withdraw his name from the Nov. 5 ballot and won reelection, but did not accept the seat. The district covers much of North Charleston and a small portion of Summerville. Waters will run unopposed in the March 25 special election as no Republicans filed for the seat.
