BISMARCK, ND (KXNET) — While it's not an easy subject to talk about, criminal investigators in North Dakota say there are more examples of graphic images involving children showing up online. And investigators say many of those pictures are created on a phone or a computer. Several state lawmakers are hoping to pass tougher laws that could penalize anyone who is found in possession of pictures or videos that show a minor involving nudity or a sexual act.House Bill 1386 could charge someone with a 'C' felony if that person knowingly uses a child's face to create a computer-generated image. State lawmakers consider bill to criminalize deep fake videos involving minors "Obviously, when our investigators testify in court, they can not show CSAM (child sexual abuse material) to a jury, so they have readouts describing to the jury what happens," North Dakota chief deputy attorney general Claire Ness said. "It is not pretty, it is horrific. It's not something I want to share, but something I feel people need to understand when they're describing and making penalties for this type of crime." The crime could increase to a 'B' felony if a person is found with more than 20 images or if it involves a child under 12. Close Thanks for signing up! Watch for us in your inbox.
