On Sunday, February 2, 2025, Young Artists of America (YAA) will present the Teen Edition of SIX the Musical. There will be two performances on that date, at 3 pm and again at 7 pm. The production will take place at The Fillmore in Silver Spring, MD (8656 Colesville Rd) and feature over 60 brilliant, local young artists from YAA Company, the organization’s high school-aged performance ensemble. YAA, based out of Montgomery County, Maryland, provides a brave space for young artists at all skill levels and various ages to experiment, take risks, and imagine the world through their artistry. YAA is the recipient of a Regional Emmy Award, has performed on world-class stages, hosted Tony-winning Broadway and classical performers as guest mentors, and paved the careers for many budding industry performers. From Tudor Queens to Pop Icons, the SIX wives of Henry VIII take the mic to remix five hundred years of historical heartbreak into a euphoric celebration of 21st-century girl power! The New York Times has called SIX “pure entertainment!” and the Evening Standard hails SIX as “the most uplifting new British musical I have ever had the privilege to watch.” SIX creators Toby Marlow and Lucy Moss were students themselves when they created the show, and crafted this teen edition to be even more inclusive. Unlike the original Broadway version, which allows for only six female voices, this special teen edition allows for a larger cast of all gender identities. YAA’s production will be one of the first productions to feature 60 voices on stage with the score expanded to include SATB vocals. “Get ready to be inspired by the next generation of queens,” says Stage Director Leayne Dempsey. “We will be transforming The Fillmore into a fully-immersive rock concert. For this production, YAA is proudly partnering with Saving Our Daughters (501c3) to help support their fundraiser in collaboration with Concord Theatricals and the Broadway production of SIX: The Musical. About SIX the Musical SIX made its world premiere at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2017, presented by Cambridge University Musical Theatre Society. After a successful UK tour, the show opened on August 30, 2018 for a six-week run at the Arts Theatre in the West End. The current West End production, which opened on January 17, 2019, is now playing at the Lyric Theatre. In May 2019, SIX premiered in North America at the Chicago Shakespeare Theater. The Broadway production of SIX opened on October 3, 2021.
