SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) -- The 2025 Farmers Insurance Open kicks off Wednesday morning at Torrey Pines Golf Course in La Jolla with a purse of $9.3 million up for grabs over the four-day event. Of the 156 players in the field, four have ties to San Diego County. Charley Hoffman Charley Hoffman, 48, joined the PGA Tour in 2006 and has won over $35 million in prize money over his career, according to the organization's website. He was born in San Diego and graduated from Poway High School before attending the University of Nevada-Las Vegas. He has played in 517 events. He went on to graduate from the University of California, Berkeley. Kim turned pro in 2013 and joined the PGA Tour three years later, in 2016. Since then, he has played in over 200 events and earned more than $7 million in prize money. He told FOX 5/KUSI's Allison Edmonds his first time at the Torrey Pines Golf Course was in the late 90s, watching Tiger Woods play during tournaments as a child. Watch the full video by Allison Edmonds below. J.J. Spaun J.J. Spaun, 34, turned pro in 2012. The Los Angeles native graduated from San Diego State University, where he was a member of the golf team. He joined the PGA Tour in 2017 and has played in over 200 events. Over the course of his career, Spaun has earned more than $13 million in winnings. J.J.
