Thousands of Kansas veteran passwords expiring in 10 days
Jan 21, 2025
WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) -- The Department of Veterans Affairs is making a security change that requires veterans to get new log-in credentials for their VA health care accounts. The deadline is 10 days away. Veterans who fail to update their sign-in options may lose access on Jan. 31.
The VA says about 4,800 Kansas veterans still need to make the change. These are veterans who are enrolled at the Dole VA Medical Center and its outpatient clinics around the state.
The new log-ins are required for the My HealtheVet patient portal, where veterans can order prescriptions, view their appointments and see their VA patient records.
The VA says My HealtheVet isn't going away. However, veterans and other beneficiaries can no longer use their old usernames and passwords to get into the portal after Jan. 31 or DS Logon after Sept. 30.

Veterans need to sign in with an identity-verified Login.gov or ID.me account. The VA has a website with tips on how to create the accounts. The site gives advice on how the veteran can take his or her photo, what to do if the Login.gov or ID.me won’t accept the veteran’s phone number or says the veteran already has an account, and more.
Veterans who need in-person training and support can attend an event this Friday at the Dole VA:
Friday, Jan. 24, 8 a.m. - 3 p.m.
Dole VA Center, Building 61, Room 112, 5500 E. Kellogg Drive, Wichita
