Nina Branchizio is trying to enjoy every moment of this her senior season at The College of New Jersey. Always a team-first player who rarely wants the conversation to be about her and her many achievements, but on Saturday against New Jersey City Branchizio reached the 1,000-point plateau. “No doubt about it Nina is our floor general and she has had such an awesome career,’’ said TCNJ coach Chessie Jackson. “I’m super proud of her achievement, but what makes her special is that she cares so much more about how we are playing and where we are as a team than she does about those personal accolades.’’ It’s been a couple tough games for Branchizio and the Lions (11-5, 7-2 NJAC) as they have dropped two in a row and want to get back on track Wednesday when first-place William Paterson (12-4, 8-1 NJAC) comes to Packer Hall for a 5 p.m. tip-off. Branchizio will be ready to do her best to get TCNJ back to its winning ways. “She is so hungry for a championship, and she is doing everything she can to lead our group to that,’’ added Jackson of the senior captain. “I give her a ton of credit for not just our current standing, but for the last three years of successes too. She will be impossible to replace.’’ Branchizio leads the New Jersey Athletic Conference in 3-point field goals per game with 3.1 and is second in 3-point field goal percentage at 34.5. She is fourth in the conference in scoring with  a 13.4 average and her leadership qualities will be critical down the stretch. Paterson and TCNJ have been rivals in women’s basketball for some time and this should be another tightly-contested game. “It’s an important game for our team because it represents a new start to NJAC play and we have a lot to prove to ourselves after last week,’’ stated Jackson. “To me it doesn’t feel like a playoff game. I don’t approach the season that way, and I aim to have the team be more focused on the process than that. But we are hungry and ready to bounce back after last week for sure.’’ After Paterson, the Lions welcome Kean (7-9, 4-5 NJAC) as the regular season heads to the final stages.
