Trump moves quickly to enact agenda

WASHINGTON (NEXSTAR) -It’s the first full day of the Trump administration and the new president and his team are busy trying to implement his agenda.
Trump is expected to announce billions of dollars of private sector investment to build artificial intelligence infrastructure in the U.S.
The new president started his morning with a National Prayer Service where one of the faith leaders made a plea to the president to protect LGBTQ people and immigrants.
"Have mercy upon the people in our country who are scared now,” said The Right Rev. Mariann Edgar Budde, Bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Washington.
President Trump is already reshaping the federal workforce, promising to dismiss over 1,000 workers who were appointed under President Biden.
The Senate is working to quickly confirm his cabinet starting with former senator Marco Rubio, who was confirmed as Secretary of State late Monday night and sworn in Tuesday morning.
He says he’s ready to lead a foreign policy focused on advancing American interests.
"Anything that makes us stronger or safer or more prosperous. And that will be our mission,” said Rubio.
The president already signed dozens of executive orders on priorities like restricting immigration and boosting energy production, but he's also leaning on the Republican controlled Congress to pass bills to enact his agenda.
He met in the Oval Office with House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) and Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-S.D.).
"President Trump has brought a new direction to Washington and yesterday, marked the beginning of a new era,” said Thune.
Democratic Senate Leader Chuck Schumer is already criticizing the new administration.
"Nothing the president did on Day One lowered grocery prices. Nothing helped Americans achieve their dream of owning a home,” said Schumer.
Some of the executive orders Trump signed are already facing legal challenges. The ACLU says they're suing over the president's attempt to end birthright citizenship.
