Springfield, Chicopee awarded grants for new firefighter equipment

BOSTON, Mass. (WWLP)-- Two cities in the Pioneer Valley have been awarded Firefighter Safety Equipment Grants.
According to a news release from state Senator Adam Gomez's office, the Chicopee Fire Department will receive $14,162.68, and the Springfield Fire Department is getting $35,521.67 to be used for purchasing equipment including protective gear, thermal imaging cameras, portable radios, hazardous gas detectors, and personnel accountability systems.

“Firefighters across Massachusetts are often times faced with a unique set of circumstanceswhen combatting man-made or natural fires,” said Senator Gomez. “In order to execute technicalrescues and treat injuries in addition to fighting fires, our local fire departments need valuablegrant dollars to ensure the safety of our firefighters and our communities. I am thankful toSecretary Reidy and the Healey-Driscoll administration for these life-saving investments in theHampden district.”
