SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - The Springfield Police Department has arrested two suspects and seized a gun in connection with a shooting on Cambridge Street Sunday afternoon. Springfield Police Spokesperson Ryan Walsh said that at around 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, officers arrived at the 0-100 block of Cambridge Street as a result of a ShotSpotter activation. Victim and shooting suspect arrested on firearms charges after Springfield shooting on Cambridge Street Springfield officers found a man with a gunshot wound at the location. The victim was later identified as Madwin Lluveras, 36, of Springfield, and was brought to Baystate Medical Center to treat his non-life-threatening injuries. City cameras were used to witness Lluveras throw a firearm into a trash can, followed by an unidentified individual removing it and handing it to an occupant inside a vehicle. The vehicle then was observed driving away. Springfield police said Massachusetts State Police troopers joined Springfield officers to halt the suspect vehicle on the 900 block of State Street. Officers located the firearm inside the car, where it was reported to be stolen out of North Carolina. The firearm had been loaded with 20 rounds of ammunition and was capable of holding 30 rounds. Officers arrested the driver, Kelvin Martinez, 24, of Springfield, while the passenger will be issued a criminal complaint. Lluveras was then arrested at the hospital after the camera footage was reviewed and he was identified.
