DARIEN, Ga. (WSAV) – Officials in McIntosh County say they're prepared for potentially dangerous road conditions brought on by winter weather. The county has had the help of the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) in preparing major state highways and roads. "Our main thoroughfares are actually state highways, so state Highway 17, State Highway 99 and State Route 251. Those are all under the Georgia Department of Transportation. And so our connection there, they did start this weekend with brining those roads and preparation and everything," explained McIntosh County Commission Chair Kate Karwacki. She's asking her residents to stay home if they can and be safe. Get the latest weather updates from Storm Team 3 "If you don't have to go out, don't go out," Karwacki said. "Stay home, stay off the roads, warm and toasty, you know, practice fire safety as it relates to potential heaters and how you heat your house. "Don't use your oven to heat your house," she advised. "You know, don't overload your power strips or electrical outlets." There are several bridges across the county, however, officials don't expect any of the smaller bridges to close. GDOT will determine closures of state road bridges if needed.
