Deer Valley Resort is open with over 93% of available terrain across 114 trails and all 24 lifts — including 14 new runs from the East Village expansion. The third and final new lift this season opened on Saturday, highlighting the now-longest ski run in Utah, the Green Monster. The Expanded Excellence project had projected its first opening in the 2025-26 season, but introduced the Keetley Express, Aurora and Hoodoo Express lifts a year ahead of schedule. Along with these lifts are 20 total new runs that connect the new East Village terrain to existing trails. The resort has seven chairlifts planned to open in the expanded terrain next season, which will ultimately connect over 3,700 acres of new land to the existing 2,026 to become one of the largest resorts in the United States. The Green Monster overtook Park City Mountain’s 3.5-mile Homerun for the longest run in Utah at 4.85 miles. As a beginner green run, the Green Monster can take between 20 and 30 minutes to complete and requires two lifts to reach the top. The secret to the Monster is just the terrain itself, said Garrett Lang, senior director of mountain operations at Deer Valley.“A lot of it is just that the terrain lends itself to these runs,” said Lang. “The reason that we are part of this expansion is that it’s great terrain here, and this is just the beginning.” This nearly 5-mile-long run that is evenly groomed and beginner friendly comes with a unique set of challenges, said Lang. “Green Monster was a challenge for this year,” said Lang. “Especially because there is only snow making from the bottom of the Mayflower lift to the base area. So we were able to make snow on the bottom half and then our grooming team and Mother Nature were able to piece together the rest in order to allow us to open the top half.” The Green Monster is accessible by either the new Keetley Express into the Sultan Express lift from the East Village side or from the existing lifts up to the top of Bald Mountain. “The feedback we’re seeing is that people want to ski Green Monster. People are excited about it to the point that they are lapping it, which is not an easy feat right now,” said Lang. “Not only are they skiing the entirety of it, at 4.85 miles, but then they’re having to ride two lights to get back to the top again to really lap it.” With the level of excitement Deer Valley has seen in response to the new expanded terrain, they have been excited to open almost all of the planned new trails for the season. On Tuesday, Deer Valley opened the intermediate runs Yaup and the lower section of Overlooked for the first time ever. This week the mountain operations team is evaluating the capacity of Cornerstone and Waterloo runs to open them as soon as possible. With these potential additions this week, 16 runs will have debuted this season in the East Village terrain. The cold temperatures in Park City over the Martin Luther King Jr. weekend allowing the snowmaking team to produce more and more snow as needed. “The cold has been really beneficial. Our production over the last week has been phenomenal. We’re moving really quickly and we’re actually down to the very end of our snowmaking water both from Park City Municipal and the Jordanelle Special Services District,” said Lang. “This has allowed us to really get 99% of everything that we wanted done with snowmaking.” “There is just a massive amount of coordination with the team. It really touches every department in mountain operations to get things open — snowmaking, grooming, patrol, lift operations, mountain hosts, everybody is involved,” said Lang. “We have plans in place, but we’re also learning as we go, learning how people circulate out there, what sort of pinch point there might be, and just making sure we’re resolving all those little issues in the Deer Valley Way and offering that great experience.” The post Deer Valley Resort opens final lift of the year’s expansion appeared first on Park Record.
