Behind the gates of Palm Desert’s Bighorn Golf Club, a palatial Moroccan-inspired retreat is on the market for $18.995 million.
The 12,925-square-foot residence, completed in 2009 on a nearly 1-acre hillside lot with 360-degree mountain and valley views, has five bedrooms, seven bathrooms and a lush interior courtyard garden sheltered by a retractable glass ceiling. Records show Howard Panes, a fitness innovator behind the Stealth Core Trainer gaming plankboard, bought the property dubbed Casbah Cove through a Florida LLC for $11.5 million in March 2022.
A circular driveway leads to ornate entry doors. They slide open into a grand entrance hall featuring twin fireplaces on either side.
Multiple unique fireplaces, Moorish windows and archways, custom latticework and geometric patterns add to the Kasbah vibe of the home.
The eat-in kitchen, designed in black and white, boasts a spacious center island and custom cabinetry inspired by Moroccan ornamentation. It seamlessly connects to a wet bar and the living and dining areas, which lead to a paver patio featuring a fountain and an outdoor fireplace.
Off the patio is whimsical guest house with a fireplace.
The primary suite boasts a headboard alcove, walk-in closet and indoor-outdoor bathroom with a champagne chiller by the tub and an outdoor shower. It also has an indoor shower.
All of the bedrooms flow into the interior courtyard, anchored by a star-shaped fountain. So does the library, which boasts built-in bookcases with upper shelves that can be accessed by a rolling ladder. Disappearing glass walls seamlessly connect the space to one of the property’s two spas and a 75-foot infinity lap pool.
There are also two pools, including a large circular pool with a reverse infinity edge.
A covered outdoor kitchen with a barbecue and areas for dining and lounging, including a living room with a fountain and fireplace add to the amenities.
The hookah room offers a view of the outdoor movie theater with its motorized projector screen.
A second spa can be accessed in the courtyard and is near a fireplace, steak shower and wine cellar. There’s also a gym.
