SUSSEX COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- A Henrico County woman has been charged after a four-vehicle crash occurred in the town of Waverly in Sussex County Tuesday morning. According to Virginia State Police, deputies responded to the crash on General Mahone Highway east of Sussex Drive at 8:58 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 21. The preliminary investigation has revealed that the driver of a Honda Civic was heading east, slowing down and tried to make a left turn when the driver of a Toyota Corolla hit the Honda Civic from behind. Police said the impact of the crash caused the Honda Civic can be pushed into the westbound lanes, where it then was hit by a Ford Fusion and a tractor-trailer. According to officials, the driver of the Honda Civic had serious injuries and was flown by Med-Flight to a local hospital. The drivers of the Toyota and Ford were both taken to a local hospital with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the tractor-trailer was checked by medics on the scene, but did not need further medical treatment. The driver of the Toyota was identified by police as Savannah Bedard of Henrico County. She has been charged with following too closely, not wearing a seatbelt, having an expired state inspection and no proof of insurance.
