PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Monday night police responded to a Bailey Court apartment in Providence for a deadly stabbing.
Junior Medina Agosto, 30, is accused of one count of homicide and committing an act of violence while having a knife.
Medina Agosto appeared in court Tuesday for an arraignment and he will be held without bail.
Providence police charged him with stabbing and killing Charles Okafor, 36, who lived in the same rooming house on Bailey Court.
The prosecutor, Daniel Guglielmo, said two witnesses told police that Okafor and Medina Agosto were arguing over food when a fight started.
All residents in the rooming house share the kitchen.
Guglielmo added the two other roommates left before seeing a knife.
Guglielmo stated the defendant, Medina Agosto, did give a statement and they agreed he was the one responsible for the death of Mr. Okafor.
Medina Agosto said he was attacked and Okafor came at him and strangled him and he reached for the counter for a knife and stabbed him.
Medina Agosto’s next court appearance is set for Jan. 28.
This is the first homicide in Providence this year.
