Jan 21, 2025
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) – The Rhode Island Coalition to End Homelessness will conduct their 2025 Point In Time count tonight to collect data on the current state of homelessness in Rhode Island.
The count is conducted nationwide every year. Surveyors will work be working throughout the state and at various service sites beginning at 7PM.
The Point In Time Count provides data to the Homeless Response System regarding how many people are experiencing homelessness as well as measuring members of special populations such as veterans, transitional-aged youth or victims of domestic violence. Data from people who are sheltered is collected within the Homeless Management Information System. The data is then submitted to the US Department of Housing and Urban Development for the Annual Homeless Assessment Report presented to Congress.
According to the Rhode Island Coalition to End Homelessness, last month’s report to Congress indicated that Rhode Island had risen to the 6th highest number of people experiencing homelessness in the nation and ranked 2nd highest among people experiencing Chronic Homelessness.
Last year when the Point In Time count was taken, 2,442 Rhode Islanders were experiencing homelessness.
