MEMPHIS, Tenn. — The Memphis Shelby County Schools board will vote at 7 Tuesday night on terminating its contract with Superintendent Marie Feagins. A regular school board meeting will precede the special meeting at 5:30. The 7 p.m. meeting will be streamed live here as it happens and this story will be updated. Feagins narrowly survived a Dec. 17 vote, when the board voted to postpone its termination vote until January, following a raucous meeting filled with supporters of Feagins who were angry at the school board. Some school board members, such as board chair Joyce Dorse Coleman, want Dr. Feagins out, saying in her short tenure on the job, she has shown a pattern of failed leadership. But other board members such as Michelle McKissack are making a last-minute plea to their colleagues to extend a lifeline to the embattled school leader and save her job. WREG received documents that before a vote to terminate takes place, there will be a report by an unnamed outside counsel. School board may name interim superintendent after Feagins vote According to the school board’s agenda, “if necessary,” the board will also select an interim superintendent after deciding if Dr. Feagins will keep her job or not. MSCS could name interim superintendent Tuesday if Feagins is fired The issue resulted in the county commission issuing a no-confidence vote in the school board, and there has been talk of replacing the board chair. Some state lawmakers have said they could get involved, even taking over the district if Dr. Feagins is let go.
