City Council votes to reappoint C.J. Davis as police chief, removing 'interim' from title
Jan 21, 2025
MEMPHIS, Tenn. — C.J. Davis is no longer interim police chief after Memphis City Council voted Tuesday to approve her as the permanent chief.
All Memphis City Council members present at the meeting Tuesday voted in favor. The item was not listed on the council's agenda.
Davis thanked the council for their vote.
Davis' reappointment as police chief failed in a City Council vote last January, leading to the "interim" title added to her name.
Mayor Paul Young had recommended her reappointment. Chief Davis became the city’s first African American female police chief when she took over in 2021, under former mayor Jim Strickland.
