Devour Indy: A tasty celebration at local restaurants
INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — More than 150 restaurants are prepared to welcome customers old and new for Devour Indy. The bi-annual food festival kicked off for its Winterfest on Monday.
WISH-TV’s Daybreak crew spent Tuesday morning on a tour of participating restaurants on the north side of Indianapolis.
Among this year’s lineup are local favorites and about a dozen new restaurants.
Condado Tacos Indy-area locations are offering a $25 three-course meal which includes a dip, a drink and a choice of tacos, nachos or a bowl.
Ben Carson, general manager of the Carmel location, says that despite their name being well-known, they’re always looking to attract new customers.
“We want to reach out to all areas of the city,” Carson said. “Trying to let everybody know that we are on all sides of town and trying to get people to come check out what we got.
Two restaurants new to Devour Indy are also new to Indianapolis.
Aberdeen Social House will be serving a $35 lunch menu and a dinner menu that varies in price. Both are four courses — an extra course compared to most — made up of a starter, soup or salad, an entrée and a dessert.
General Manager Shae Parthun says the restaurant just opened its doors in December.
“It’s kind of a twofold for us,” Parthun said. “Being a new restaurant, we get that exposure. People will be willing to come out and try. (Also) a sampling of our menu that they’ve never seen here before. We thought, get out to the community, get our name out there and give everyone an opportunity to try things.”
Meanwhile, The Rejoicing Vine has been around a tad longer. It started selling its wines in June, however, owners Brent and Frances Kumfer just started serving brunch this month.
They’re offering a $20 brunch menu, it includes a drink, side, and either avocado toast, waffles or a panini.
“We’re really excited to be a part of Devour Indy,” Kumfer said. “The main feature of our brunch is our mimosa. So we are a winery and we really wanted our brunch to be centered around the mimosa. We also have alcohol-free. I know a lot of people do dry January.”
Some national chains are getting in on the mix too. Atlanta-based Ted’s Montana Grill offers a $30 lunch menu and a $45 dinner menu.
Proprietor Zane Smith says it’s a great way to be creative.
“We take very pride in what we do. We call it the big sky spirit around here,” Smith said. “We want to make sure that people feel welcome when they come in. Then you can see it in our food as well. We want you to be happy while you’re eating. .
To participate in Winterfest, simply go to one of the participating restaurants and ask for the Devour menu.
