GREENSBORO, N.C. (WGHP) -- As Anne Hurd prepares to bring her career at Greensboro College to a close, she gathered several photos that highlight why her office represents so much more than a place of business. “The office that we're in was my father's office,” she said. Greensboro College is truly where she grew up—well before serving in her current role as Vice President for Institutional Advancement. “My father was in this position, and back in the 60s and 70s, the students really took an interest in the children of the faculty and the staff,” she said. Her father Fred Jones held several titles eventually becoming Vice President for Development and Public Relations and Assistant to the President. There was also a time when he was the college’s interim president. “I have carried on with his work for the last ten years which has been very rewarding,” Hurd said. Hurd is fond of the days when she and her brother were on campus as children and is grateful that she has since added to her family’s rich history at the college. “My mother graduated in 1958. My parents were married in Finch Chapel right across the way. I graduated in 1981, my brother in 1984, and my daughter in 2010.” Hurd’s career background includes leading capital campaigns. She worked at Canterbury School, Guilford College, and Greensboro Day School before returning to Greensboro College as a member of the president’s cabinet in 2015. “I have helped raise money to build buildings at all four places. We have not built a building here, but I've helped raise the money to do a lot of renovations.” Hurd has been crucial in leading the efforts to bring in $40 million since she has worked at Greensboro College-- meaning the total is higher across the 25 years she’s worked in educational advancement. “It's not my success. It's the donor’s success. It's always about them,” she said. “With large universities, they have billion-dollar campaigns. These are all small private schools or colleges. Those amounts don't sound big, but comparatively, I'm proud to have made an impact on them all.” Hurd will retire from Greensboro College on Jan. 31. “I will miss the people. Greensboro College is a small very caring community, and so I will miss the people I work with every day.” Hurd looks forward to doing work as a consultant and looks forward to spending more time with her four grandchildren.
