Marco Rubio sworn in as secretary of state

WASHINGTON (NEXSTAR) -- Secretary of State Marco Rubio got right to work Tuesday just hours after receiving Senate confirmation, making him the nation's top diplomat.
Rubio is the first member of President Donald Trump's cabinet.
He says the mission at the State Department remains the same, "promotion of peace, the avoidance of conflict."
Rubio says President Trump tasked him with seeking solutions for a safer world.
"Without peace, it is hard to be a strong nation, a prosperous nation, and one that is better off," Rubio said.
The secretary of state says there will be changes at the department to reflect the world around us.
"Think about how much the world has changed in the last five years. Imagine how much it will change over the next 25 years," Rubio said.
The former senator turned secretary of state was confirmed in a 99-0 vote, a rare show of bipartisanship.
"Now, if every one of President Trump's nominees was qualified and experienced as Senator Rubio, they'd sail through the Senate with bipartisan support," said Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.).
When it comes to confirming President Trump's other nominees Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer has concerns.
"Will Donald Trump's nominees focus on cutting costs? or will they be more interested in cutting sweetheart deals for big businesses?" Schumer asked.
The Senate will hold hearings and votes on the remaining nominees in the coming weeks.
