APPLETON, Wis. (WFRV) - As the air and wind chill combine for extraordinarily cold temperatures, truckers are left with challenges trying to manage their trips safely.
Fox Valley Technical College truck driving instructor Sam Eustice said that these three months of cold can be quite harmful to the truck's parts.

"Anything that normally would be fine as far as a part or anything on the vehicle, when it gets cold it's susceptible to breaking," Eustice said.
Eustice added some extra tips for drivers, emphasizing the patience it might take when getting set up.

"Typically when you see a truck broken down on the side of the road in the winter, people tend to think it might be a fuel issue," Eustice said. "Typically it's something in the air brake system."
Eustice added that if a driver is typically in a warmer climate, they may not think of those things, which is why truckers must check everything before they head off.
