FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) - A 20-year-old man faces an aggravated battery charge in connection to a Saturday shooting that left a man in life-threatening condition. Scott Lantz Jr. is accused of pulling the trigger during a confrontation in the 1400 block of Eagle Street that night. The Fort Wayne Police Department responded to the shooting shortly before 10:15 p.m. and found the victim with a gunshot wound in his chest, according to Allen Superior Court documents filed Tuesday. Scott Lantz (Courtesy Allen County Sheriff's Department) Lantz was quickly taken into custody and, in an interview with police, Lantz admitted to shooting the man. Why Richard Allen’s attorneys say conviction should be vacated in Delphi murders case Lantz said he'd been walking to his grandfather's house when a car pulled up with his child's mother and her family inside. The woman got out of the car asking where their son was, but Lantz told her the boy wasn't there, according to court documents. Lantz claimed the woman tried to force her way inside the house, so he tried to pull her out and they started fighting. Her family joined in and they were all fighting, Lantz said. Lantz told police in court documents that "the guy he shot had on some brass knuckles and he was telling his cousin to go get his gun," and then the man allegedly turned toward Lantz like he was going to hit him. Lantz said that's when he fired a shot toward the man but wasn't sure if it hit him, so he fired a second shot, according to court documents. Lantz has an initial hearing scheduled for Wednesday morning.
