Schools around the Midlands moving to Wednesday eLearning Day, closings

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO)– Due to the threat of Winter weather and the resulting hazardous road conditions, schools in the Midlands are continuing to shift schedules.
LEXINGTON COUNTY:
Lexington Four:
District officials said due to forecasts of Winter weather all throughout the Midlands, Wednesday, Jan. 22, will be an eLearning Day.
Also, all after-school activities and athletics are canceled for tomorrow as well.
Lexington School District Four said in order for students to be marked present for eLearning, the student must complete all assignments by Wednesday, January 29.
Lexington One:
Lexington One schools will switch to eLearning on Wednesday, Jan. 22, due to the potential winter weather impacts in the area.
As of this morning, Tuesday, Jan. 21, a Winter Weather Advisory has been issued for the county starting at 4 p.m. today.
The latest forecast from the National Weather Service predicts up to one inch of snow, with over an inch possible in some spots.
Lexington Two:
With forecasts calling for potential Winter weather and snow beginning late afternoon/early evening Tuesday and continuing overnight, Lexington Two schools will move to an eLearning day on Wednesday, January 22, said district officials.
All afternoon and evening activities are canceled on Wednesday, including athletic events, extracurricular activities, after-school programs, and adult education classes.
SUMTER COUNTY:
Wednesday, January 22, all Sumter County schools will have an eLearning Day due to the potential black ice that is predicted on that morning in the area.
All schools and office buildings are closed, and all activities, including athletic events and field trips, are canceled.
Lessons and assignments will be posted in Schoology.
District officials said students will complete eLearning assignments later if they are unable to participate due to power outages, lack of internet service, or other barriers.
RICHLAND COUNTY:
Richland One:
Due to potentially hazardous traveling conditions, Wednesday, January 22, will be an e-Learning Day for Richland One students and a work-from-home day for Richland One employees, according to officials.
All afterschool programs, activities and events that were scheduled for Wednesday, including athletics games and practices are canceled.
Since Wednesday will be an e-Learning day students will not have to make up the day.
Richland Two:
Richland School District Two will switch to an e-Learning/remote work day on Wednesday, January 22, due to the potential for hazardous weather.
All school buildings and district facilities will be closed and all after-school activities are canceled.
District Five of Lexington & Richland County:
School District Five of Lexington & Richland Counties schools are changing to an eLearning schedule on Wednesday, January 22, due to possible inclement weather.
Students will take home Chromebook devices after school on Tuesday, and on Wenesday morning teachers will post assignments to Google Classroom by 10 a.m. for asynchronous learning.
All students will have up to five school days to complete assignments.
Also, all students will have the option to take a packaged breakfast and lunch for Wednesday, which is being provided by School District Five’s Office of Student Nutrition.
All after school childcare programs and extracurricular events are canceled.
Columbia International University:
All evening classes for Tuesday night are cancelled, according to administration.
The changes comes to due to the possible inclement weather that will affect the Midlands.
University of South Carolina:
Due to the weather on Tuesday, Jan. 22, USC will open at noon tomorrow, Wednesday, Jan. 22, according to university officials.
In-person classes scheduled to begin prior to noon are canceled, but those beginning at noon or later will continue as scheduled.
FAIRFIELD COUNTY:
All Fairfield County School District schools will be closed tomorrow, Wednesday, January 22, due to inclement weather.
The district said Food Services has prepared breakfast and lunch meals for students to take home on Tuesday, January 21.
Additionally, the missed day will be made up on February 17, 2025, which will be an e-learning day.
ORANGEBURG COUNTY:
SC State University:
An inclement weather forecast for Orangeburg County and surrounding areas prompted South Carolina State University to close offices on Wednesday, Jan. 22, said campus officials.
All classes scheduled for Wednesday, Jan. 22, will be conducted online.
Additionally, essential employees will continue to work on a regular schedule, and others should work from home on Wednesday when possible.
Orangeburg County School District:
As a result of information received from Orangeburg County Emergency Management officials, the area is expected to experience winter precipitation beginning this afternoon, Tuesday, January 21, and lasting through the evening and into Wednesday, January 22.
Therefore, Wednesday, January 22, will be an eLearning day for all Orangeburg County schools.
All scheduled athletic events and extracurricular activities are postponed until further notice, according to the district.
CLARENDON COUNTY:
Clarendon County School District has transitioned to eLearning on Jan. 22, due to the possible inclement weather on Wednesday.
All after-school activities have been canceled also.
And students can find their assignments on Google Classroom and/or Rooms.
KERSHAW COUNTY:
Kershaw County School District has switched to an eLearning Day on Wednesday, Jan. 22, due to weather in the area on Wednesday, according to the district.
All KCSD office buildings and schools will be closed.
All KCSD extracurricular and after-school activities, including sports practices and games are also canceled for Wednesday, as well as district meetings and adult education classes.
District officials said teachers will post assignments in Canvas (or will provide paper packets for younger students).
Teachers will be working remotely on Wednesday, and will be available for student questions during their virtual office hours:

Elementary schools: 9 a.m. until 12 p.m.
Middle and high schools: 11 a.m. until 2 p.m.
CALHOUN COUNTY:
Due to the expected inclement weather on Wednesday, Jan. 22, all schools in the district is moving to an eLearning Day.
