NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) -- Dozens of flights were canceled or delayed at Charleston International Airport (CHS) on Tuesday ahead of a rare winter storm that is expected to bring snow, sleet, and ice to the area.
More than 25 flights scheduled to depart after 3:30 p.m. have been canceled and several others are delayed, according to the CHS flight tracker. A similar number of inbound flights are also canceled or delayed.

Airport officials said they are monitoring conditions and are "fully prepared" to address any issues related to snow or ice.
Crews have pre-treated roads leading to the airport as well as parking garages and walkways. Specialized snow removal equipment has also been prepositioned to ensure runaways and taxiways remain safe and operational.
“It’s really the icing event is what we’re obviously concerned about,” said Elliott Summey, Executive Director & CEO of the Charleston International Airport. “We’ve bought the right equipment in. We’ve got the right chemical equipment as well to be able to break up that ice quickly, keep the runways open and keep the roads open.”
The airport said travelers should check with their individual airlines for flight updates and iflychs.com for travel advisories.
