LOS ANGELES (KTLA) — An 11-year-old baseball card collector from Los Angeles has reportedly found what is likely the most important card they will ever pull. Topps, the card manufacturer, confirmed Tuesday that the Paul Skenes 1/1 Debut Patch card has finally been unpacked. The card features the patch that the 2023 No. 1 pick wore on his jersey on his MLB debut, making it a “true one-of-a-kind offering,” according to Bleacher Report.  Paul Skenes of the Pittsburgh Pirates throws a pitch during the second inning of the game against the New York Yankees at Yankee Stadium on September 28, 2024 in New York City. Should the lucky 11-year-old opt to give the Pirates the ultra-rare Skenes card, they would receive two season tickets behind home plate for the next 30 years and a private softball game at PNC Park (the Pirates' stadium) in exchange for the card. The offer also includes a spring training experience "like no other," complete with a private tour of Pirates City and LECOM Park, a meet-and-greet with Skenes, and two autographed jerseys, as well as the chance to take batting practice and warm up with the team and other unique experiences. Dunne upped the stakes by including everything the Pirates promised plus the chance to sit with her in her suite at PNC Park. Despite finding a card for his teammate, Aroldis Chapman, and a signed card from Yankees outfielder Everson Pereira, his search for himself was unsuccessful. The Pirates aren’t the only ones offering up a deal. A San Antonio, Texas, sports card shop posted its own “bounty offer,” with items including an opened container of ice cream and $23.78 in cash.  Comedian and late-night TV host Seth Meyers doesn’t even want the card, he just wants to see it. The noted Pirates fan said last week that he would offer the lucky cardholder VIP tickets to attend a taping of “Late Night with Seth Meyers” if he can “LOOK at it for a SECOND.” Fanatics, the parent company of Topps, did not immediately respond to Nexstar's request for comment or additional information. The 22-year-old Skenes, an Orange County native, put together a solid rookie season this past year, going 11-3 with a 1.96 ERA and becoming just the fifth rookie to start at pitcher for the National League in MLB All-Star Game history. Now, it's up to the 11-year-old to decide whether to keep the card or not (maybe with the help of their parents), but either way, it's likely that they will go down as a baseball legend regardless of whether they play professionally or not.
