COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) -- A Columbus woman facing a reckless homicide charge and claims to have waved a "faulty" gun that fired appeared in court Tuesday.
Police said Cierra Locke-Shelby, 30, was arrested overnight Monday after the fatal shooting of Tremain Russell, 33, in northwest Columbus. Locke-Shelby and Russell were in a verbal argument at around midnight when she grabbed a handgun and waved it in the direction of Russell, per Franklin County court documents.

The gun fired and a bullet struck Russell in the stomach, leading Locke-Shelby to call 911. Officers arrived to the 1400 block of Slade Avenue and had Russell transported in critical condition. He was pronounced dead at 12:45 a.m.
Court documents said Locke-Shelby told police she knew the gun had a "faulty safety" and that she did not intend to shoot the gun at Russell. A witness told police that Locke-Shelby was waiving a gun in the direction of Russell when the gun fired.
She received a $50,000 bond during her arraignment hearing in Municipal Court and is scheduled to have a preliminary hearing on Jan. 30. Among her conditions of bond include no weapons, drugs, alcohol, and staying away from the incident location.
