Township trustees, during their Jan. 14 meeting, authorized the purchase of a new Mack Truck for the service department.
The township will buy a 2025 Mack GR42B from M & K Truck Centers of Austinburg Township, according to a resolution approved by trustees. Cost of the truck is $131,818.
Madison Township will use the new truck for snowplowing and hauling materials.
In other action at the meeting, trustees:
• Approved the purchase of new software for service, zoning, cemetery and administrative uses.
The township will buy the software for about $35,684 from Brightly Software Inc. of Cary, North Carolina. Brightly also has agreed to provide installation, training and customer support as part of the software acquisition.
• Authorized taking all actions that are necessary to award a $2,000 NOPEC Community Event Sponsorship Grant to the Madison Joint Recreation District.
NOPEC, which is formally known as the Northeast Ohio Public Energy Council, notified the township that it was eligible to select a recipient in 2025 for the $2,000 allocation.
Through this program, NOPEC offers financial support to community organizations that host events accessible to residents.
Grants are offered to member communities, and Madison Township has been an electric and gas community since 2002.
Trustees approved a resolution at their Jan. 14 meeting directing that Madison Joint Recreation District receive the grant to “assist in funding events within Madison Township.”
That same type of grant has been given to the rec district in previous years, at the request of trustees.
The Madison Joint Recreation District typically has used the $2,000 NOPEC grant to help fund its Light up the Park program.
Light up the Park is an annual community celebration held each summer in Madison Township Park, at Hubbard and Lake roads. The event consists of a Family Fun Day festival, followed by a fireworks display at night.
