Abracadabra! About a dozen magicians are appearing at this magical L.A. festival
Jan 21, 2025
Magicians from the famous Magic Castle in Hollywood are popping out of the curtains of the private club to perform their tricks for the general public at the annual Millennium Magic festival.
The weekend show will take place Friday, Jan. 24 through Sunday, Jan. 26 at Theatre West in Los Angeles. Each day will feature four different magicians performing everything from illusions to comedy magic to card tricks to mind readers and more.
“Each day is a totally different show, so it’s a wide variety and good for everyone from kids and up,” said George Tovar, a Magic Castle member who founded the festival in 2000. He is a professional magician and also a member of Theatre West company.
While the magicians on the roster perform at various places, in order to see so many of them under one roof you would have to be invited or become a member of the storied Magic Castle, Tovar said. So he wanted to create an event where people could see as many talented Magic Castle magicians as possible in one place. The show is also a fundraiser for Theater West. which was established in 1962 and whose roster of notable alumni include actors such as Beau Bridges, Richard Dreyfuss, Sally Field and Martin Landau.

“I had the idea to call upon my fellow Magic Castle members to donate one performance over three days and to put on a show to raise money for Theatre West,” he said.
Some of the performers taking part in the festival include Charlie Mount, who will take the stage on Friday performing comedy magic. On Saturday some people may recognize the handiwork of magician and actor Chris Hart, whose perhaps most notable movie role was portraying Thing, the disembodied hand in the Addams Family movie franchise.
“And he actually plays on that in his act. He does a stage act involving illusions with his world famous hand,” Tovar said.
And on Sunday people can see performers like illusionist Alexander the Great whose magic include classic tricks like making people float and cutting them in half.
“It’s absolutely going to be top-notch magic,” Tovar said.
