Woman, 4 children die in North Carolina crash, troopers say

BLADEN COUNTY, N.C. (WBTW) -- Five members of a Robeson County family died Sunday afternoon when their SUV ran through a stop sign and crashed into a bobtail semi in Bladen County, according to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.
Maribel Hernandez, 35, of Red Springs, and four of her children, ages 6, 9, 14 and 15, were pronounced dead at the scene, troopers said. The crash happened at about 3:45 p.m. on Highway 20 near Purdi Hall Road.
According to troopers, Hernadez was driving a Chevrolet Equinox south on Purdi Hall Road that failed to stop at the intersection and collided with the semi, which was headed east on Highway 20.
The truck driver, who was from Kingsland, Georgia, was not hurt, troopers said. The highway patrol is investigating the crash.
