STEUBEN COUNTY, Ind. (WANE) - A Michigan man faces charges after leading police on a pursuit that escalated to a shooting near the state line Monday. Around 5 p.m., a driver was accused of failing to stop for a deputy, according to the Branch County Sheriff's Office. The man behind the wheel allegedly led police on a pursuit through Algansee Township down to Stateline Road at Kelley Road, where the sheriff's office said the car went off the road. When the deputy tried to take the driver into custody, the confrontation evolved into a shooting. While the sheriff's office did not specify who was shot, the suspect was taken to a hospital in Fort Wayne. The 33-year-old Michigan man had fled the scene but was found later that day in Indiana near the Ohio state line and taken to the hospital. Charges are pending in both Indiana and Michigan. The ongoing investigation has been turned over to the Michigan State Police.
