EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — The City and the County will be offering locations as warming centers for those who may need a safe and warm place as temperatures are expected to drop over the next several days, the City said in a press release on Tuesday, Jan. 21. The weather is also impacting El Paso school districts and organizations and will be having a change of schedule on Tuesday. Changes, delays due to weather conditions on Tuesday The City says it's offering Library and Parks and Recreation locations as warming centers. A list of those warming centers are the following: Recreation centers: Valle Bajo (7380 Alameda) Marty Robbins (11600 Vista Del Sol) Galatzan (650 Wallenberg) Nations Tobin (8831 Railroad) Hours of Operation: Monday through Thursday: 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday: 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday: Closed Library locations: Armijo Library (620 E. 7th) Clardy Fox (5515 Robert Alva) Dorris Van Doren (551 Redd) Esperanza Moreno (12480 Pebble Hills) Irving Schwartz (1865 Dean Martin) Jose Cisneros/Cielo Vista (1300 Hawkins) Judge Marquez (610 N. Yarbrough) Memorial Park (3200 Copper) Richard Burges (9600 Dyer Ste. C) Sergio Troncoso (9321 Alameda) Westside (125 Belvidere) Hours of Operation: Monday: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday: 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday: 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday: Closed The County will also be opening warming centers for those who need a safe and heated space during this week. Those centers will be open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. starting on Tuesday, Jan. 21 through Friday, Jan. 24. The County says the following warming centers will be open: Agua Dulce Community Center, Ilumina Library: 15371 Kentwood Ave, Horizon City, TX 79928 Fabens Community Center: 201 NW Camp St, Fabens, TX 79838 Canutillo Community Center: 7351 Bosque Rd, Canutillo, TX 79835 The County says if you or someone you know requires transportation assistance, the El Paso Transportation Authority’s (ETA) Paratransit Program is available. Please call (915) 247-0505 during business hours (8 a.m. to 5 p.m.) to arrange for transportation. The Office of Emergency Management (OEM) team will also be traveling throughout the city to assist those who may need/want overnight shelter. The OEM also cautions and reminds the community to take preventative actions and stay safe during these cold temperatures. The community is advised to do the following: Avoid unnecessary trips outside. If you must go out, limit the time you stay outside. Wear several layers of loose, warm clothing. Keep your head, hands, and feet covered when outdoors. Stay dry, moisture can damage the insulating effectiveness of clothing. Pay extra attention to your daily needs: get enough sleep, eat high-energy foods, drink warm beverages to help your body stay warm, and avoid alcoholic beverages. Roads may become icy and slippery. If you must drive, remember to slow down and keep your full attention on the road. Maintain enough distance from the vehicles in front of you. The City says those seeking access to warming centers and those who are experiencing insufficient heat are encouraged to visit a warming center and/or dial 311 for more information and to connect residents with support services.
