TEXARKANA, Texas (KTAL/KMSS)—A professor from a university in Texarkana has been given a prestigious award created in 1996 to honor employees who have made extraordinary contributions to education and to the people of Texas. Dr. Michael Perri, Professor of History at Texas A&M University, has been named a 2023-2024 Regents Professor by the Texas A&M University System Board of Regents. He said each of the previous Regents Award winners made significant contributions to their fields and their state. "Their achievements embody the A&M System’s mission of service and innovation, and I hope their dedication will motivate others,” said Perri. Dr. Michael Perri became an Assistant Professor of History at A&M-Texarkana in 2004, an Associate Professor four years later, and a full professor in 2018. Perri was previously a visiting professor at the University of Minnesota at Morris. He has also taught at Dillard University in New Orleans, Emory University, and Reinhardt College in Georgia. Dr. Ross Alexander, president of A&M-Texarkana, said Perri is extremely well-credentialed, passionate about his subject matter, and builds relationships with his students that help them achieve their academic goals. He also supports alumni after they graduate. "The honor of being named a Regents Professor is very well deserved," said Alexander. "Dr. Perri exemplifies the type of professor we want at Texas A&M University-Texarkana.
