A Winter Weather Advisory will go into effect 4 p.m. Tuesday for counties near and south and east of I-85 — including the Charlotte metro region. A winter storm storm producing historic snow for areas along the Gulf Coast where snow is relatively rare in locations like New Orleans and Tallahassee, FL. The storm will bring the heaviest snow to coastal communities in the Carolinas, but even a dusting could make travel slippery as temperatures will remain below freezing through the day and fall to the teens and single digits tonight. Accumulations of a dusting to 1/2″ will be possible near the I-85 corridor, with up to 1-2″ for the far eastern fringe of the region. Snowfall will taper off by midnight, but icy conditions will likely remain through Wednesday as temperatures will remain near, if not below freezing until Thursday afternoon.
