CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) - Storm Team 2 is monitoring a winter storm that is expected to bring snow, sleet, and ice to the Lowcountry.
The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning for Berkeley, Charleston, Colleton, Dorchester, Georgetown, and Williamsburg Counties beginning at 5 p.m. Tuesday until noon Wednesday.
Winter precipitation is forecast to begin around 5 p.m., and Storm Team 2 Meteorologist Grace Lowe said a lot of that will include rain, sleet, and a snow mix to start, closer to 6 p.m.
"By 9 or 10 [p.m.] most of this will be transitioning into snow into our overnight hours," said Lowe.
By 5 a.m. on Wednesday, a few snow showers will still be lingering and the temperatures are still expected to be very cold.
Lowe says the forecasted sleet totals are higher in the coastal areas while snow totals are forecasted to be higher in the more inland areas.
"As you head towards Wednesday night into Thursday morning, you're going to notice it's going to be a lot colder out there. We're forecasting possible wind chills in the single-digit values, especially within those inland areas," said Lowe.
