BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — A woman has been sentenced to six months in jail and five years of probation for her role in the death of a Genesee County Sheriff’s Sergeant at the Batavia Downs Gaming & Hotel last year. Lyndsey Jean Wilcox, 39, was sentenced on a second-degree assault charge. Wilcox and Michael Elmore, 33, were escorted out of the Batavia Downs facility on March 10, 2024 when Elmore became combative with Genesee County Sheriff's Sergeant Thomas Sanfratello, who was on special assignment working at the hotel. During the altercation, Sanfratello, 54, suffered a “medical event” that led to his death. Sanfratello was a 32-year veteran of the Genesee County Sheriff’s Office. Elmore was sentenced to 20 years in prison on first-degree aggravated manslaughter and second-degree obstructing governmental administration in December.
