BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) -- Mayor-President Sid Edwards gave an update on the freezing weather conditions in East Baton Rouge Parish on Tuesday, Jan. 21. Edwards reminded residents that the winter weather event is still serious, adding that people should not let their guard down and stay off the roads. Road temperatures are currently in the 20s. Director of the East Baton Rouge Parish Mayor's Office of Homeland Security & Emergency Preparedness Clay Reeves talked about being aware of exposure while being outside. Chief of Police Thomas Morse Jr. asked people to not drive around barricades. Baton Rouge Fire Chief Michael Kimble told residents to plug their electric heaters into the wall. He said there are 22 engine companies in service. Assistant Chief Administrative Officer Jeff LeDuff talked about the homeless and those without sufficient heating. He stressed that there are beds for those in need. Shelters and warming stations have opened in EBR Parish. Edwards spoke with Louisiana First News Anchor Andrew Epperson before the winter weather hit the parish. The winter weather has led to road closures in Baton Rouge and surrounding parishes.
