Washington — President Donald Trump on Monday evening pardoned or commuted the sentences of more than 1,000 people, including some residents of Central New York, who had been convicted in the violent attack on the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021.Thousands of people stormed the Capitol that day in an effort to prevent Congress from completing the normally underwhelming task of counting each state’s Electoral College votes, which would have formalized Joe Biden’s win over Trump in the 2020 presidential election.
