PITTSFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - The Pittsfield Fire Department put out a structure fire at a two-story home on Holmes Road Monday evening. Pittsfield Fire Department Deputy Chief Neil Myers said that at approximately 4:57 p.m., the department received a report regarding a potential structure fire at 120 Holmes Road. Several 911 calls were directed to Dispatch at the time, and a rapid intervention team was requested to accompany crews at the location of the fire. Six without home after fire on Woodmont Street in Springfield When firefighters arrived at the home, they noticed that several windows were covered with plywood, which made them unsure whether the home was occupied. Pittsfield Fire said that heavy smoke and fire were rising through to the second floor of the house and that crews were inhibited by a large couch and shelves that blocked the hallway in the room where the fire had started. Although the water supply was briefly interrupted due to a frozen hydrant, another hydrant was located and Pittsfield firefighters were able to control the fire within 15-20 minutes. Pittsfield Fire said that the occupant of the home arrived about an hour after firefighters initially arrived at the house. The fire caused no injuries to the occupant or to fire personnel. Holmes Road was temporarily closed on Monday evening and Pittsfield police assisted with traffic control.
