NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — Snow is spreading across the area Tuesday morning and we will see accumulations building through the day. Most of the area will fall within the 3-5 inch range the way it looks right now but there will be isolated pockets of higher amounts. Some areas could end up with 6-8 inches of snow. It will be breezy through the day so wind chill values will be low. Make sure the kids stay warm and dry if they are outside to avoid a risk of hypothermia. The other issue will be temperatures. Once the snow ends expect brutally cold air Wednesday morning with mid to upper teens to the north and low to mid 20s to the south. You really need to have outdoor faucets and pipes wrapped up in the Florida Parishes, southern MS, and even through the river parishes and down towards Houma. Temperatures will slowly warm into the mid 30s Wednesday afternoon. Areas in the sun should see snow and ice melt. However some shaded areas will see ice continue through the day. Also, any leftover moisture on the roads will re-freeze going in to Thursday morning. Travel is certainly not recommended on Tuesday but may be difficult for most of Wednesday as well. We will stay dry through the rest of the week with overnight lows still cold, but daytime highs will be much warmer by Friday through the weekend.
