Weather Forecast: School closings pour in as bitter cold takes over
Jan 20, 2025
ROCHESTER, NY (WROC) - After a busy start to our Monday with heavy snow across much of the Rochester area, shifting winds are driving lake effect bands back to their "usual" spots.
LAKE EFFECT SNOW WARNINGS LAST THROUGH WEDNESDAY IN WYOMING AND GENESEE COUNTIES FOR SIGNIFICANT ACCUMULATING SNOW WITHIN THE SNOW BAND OFF LAKE ERIE.
While additional significant lake effect snow will continue across parts of Wyoming and Genesee counties through Wednesday, the pivot for the rest of us will be toward bitter cold. Arctic air is continuing to spill into the region with air temperatures tonight expected to plummet into the single digits to near zero. Wind chills by Tuesday morning will be in the ballpark of -10 to -15°.
Tuesday will be a battle for temperatures to even make it to the double digits. With that colder afternoon, it's likely our Tuesday night into Wednesday morning will be even colder than tonight. Air temperatures will be closer to zero (especially where skies clear outside the snow bands), even dropping below zero at times. Wind chills Wednesday morning will be more in the -15 to -25° ballpark.
We'll remain in the teens for highs Wednesday with another very cold forecast Wednesday night, but that will mark the end of the coldest of this stretch. Temperatures will be back in the 20s Thursday with a continued slow climb higher into the weekend .
