CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) - With dangerously high temperatures expected, it will create some icy conditions across western Massachusetts.
To avoid a slip and fall risk, experts advise homeowners to clear snow on all pathways on their property and treat it with ice melt.
Calcium chloride salt could give the best results to get rid of ice, but if you have pets, make sure to check the label that it's a pet-safe treatment.
Jack Wu with the 22News Storm Team says, "Even with some of that melted snow from the sunshine, so the risk with that, black ice on the streets, even on the sidewalks. When people are walking outside or on the roads late tonight going into the week, we suggest that you drive carefully, walk cautiously, and kind of watch where you are going. That ice could come out of nowhere."
Black ice can also make road conditions more dangerous for driving. AAA experts say if you get behind the wheel, drive slowly to account for lower traction while driving over ice and snow.
You can also apply the gas slowly to regain traction and avoid skids. And always keep your distance from other vehicles.
