OTIS, Mass. (WWLP) - Snow from this weekend made for great holiday skiing.
Snowfall this weekend brought droves of visitors to Otis Ridge Ski Area. The winter weather came right at the end of the 3 day weekend.
We spoke with one snowboarder who missed the days when ski resorts always had snow. "It's definitely been on the dryer side one of my favorite mountains locally here," says Alec Ferrendino of Agawam. "Blandford actually closed down a few years ago. we don't get snow you know how we used to it. It's sad as someone who loves snow."
The below-average snowfall has impacted skiing destinations across Massachusetts, as the Bay State just experienced its warmest year ever. The General manager of Otis Ridge Eric Vanoostveen, told 22News how they're keeping the slopes open during a dry winter. "Otis is in a nice little niche where we are a little colder than some of the other areas, but we just grab that cold weather when it comes in make as much snow a weekend as possible, and hope for the best."
MLK weekend is a busy weekend for ski resorts and the significant snowfall we saw this weekend is helping skiers and snowboarders enjoy the snow. Snow sports enthusiasts were packed at lift lines today. One young skier told us why he enjoys going out on fresh powder days.
Owen Wendell from Redding, CT, told 22News, "It's just kind of amazing still because like a bunch of trails is open and you can go out in the woods area."
Now that we've dealt with the snow, frigid temperatures are next in the forecast.
