ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – Tamaiah Gary is the daughter of former UNM Men's Basketball stand out, Dairese Gary, and like her dad Tamaiah is excelling at the game of basketball. "She was here when I was playing at New Mexico, so being around a crowd and being around basketball, I knew one day when she actually figured out that she was good, she would fall in love it," said Dairese Gary. Dairese Gary currently coaches Tamaiah at ABC Prep and she has shown a lot of promise, as the 6"1 center has already racked up four DI basketball offers and Tamaiah is just a 14-year-old 8th grader. "From UNLV, Mizzou, I have UNM and San Diego State. My first one was UNLV and I went to a camp and then everyone else after that just started falling in," said Tamaiah Gary. "I have been training her since she has been young and then she goes out and does something that even shocks me. I be like, man where did that come from," said Dairese. Tamaiah is currently averaging over 20 points and 10 rebounds per game, playing with ABC Prep, which plays in the Grind Session. The Grind Session is a league that features some of the best talent from across the country and athletes older than Tamaiah, and she is making the most of it. Not only is Tamaiah getting better each week, but she is also learning under one of the best high school athletes in the state, as she plays with Bella Hines, who is her teammate. "Bella just being next to me encouraging me and telling me I got this, getting her leadership, you know she is going to be gone next year, I am going to have to step up and Bella is really showing me a lot," said Tamaiah. "I am proud of her and honestly she has been working really hard. She is one of the heart and souls of our team, so I am just proud of her and I can't wait to see what she does in the future," said Bella Hines.
