Image: USC Columbia, SC (WOLO) — The ABC Columbia weather team has been reporting the possibility of inclement weather leading various schools and after school activities to be postponed or canceled. While districts get ready for whatever type of wintry mix hits the Midlands, The University of South Carolina (USC) is joining the growing list as they announce their annual Gamecock Polar Plunge event is being postponed. University officials say the event that is held each each to raise money for the South Carolina Special Olympics is being moved to a new date. The event, held by Law Enforcement Torch Run Officials is one of the biggest fundraiser efforts held to aid Special Olympic athletes with year round sports training and competitions. The ‘Freezin’ for a Reason’ Polar Plunge that was slated to take place at 4pm Tuesday, January 21 2025 at the Strom Thurmond Wellness and Fitness Center at 1000 Blossom Street will be held on a new date that has yet to be announced.
