Capitol Heights man charged with girlfriend's murder after remains found in home, police say

CAPITOL HEIGHTS, Md. (DC News Now) -- Police in Prince George's County said a man was charged in connection to his girlfriend's murder after her remains were found in his home in Capitol Heights.
On Jan. 18, the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) contacted the Prince George's County Police Department (PGPD) to help locate 29-year-old Alexis Schuler of Washington, D.C., who disappeared on Jan. 10.
In a post on the X platform, the Metropolitan Police Department put out a critical missing person alert for Schuler. Police said she was last seen that Friday at around 6 p.m. in the 2800 block of Hartford Steet SE.
For several days, officers searched for Schuler but were unsuccessful.

As the investigation developed, PGPD said officers executed a search warrant on Saturday at 30-year-old Devontae Gray's home in the 700 block of Larchmont Avenue.
While inside his house, detectives discovered Schuler's remains.
Details about how Schuler was found are limited; however, police noted in the press release "Gray had taken extensive efforts to hide the victim’s [Schuler's] body."
Police said her autopsy results confirmed that she had been shot.

According to the police department, Gray confessed to killing Schuler after he was taken into custody.
Their preliminary investigation determined that he had allegedly killed her during a dispute.
Prince George's County police charged Gray with first-degree murder and related charges. He is being held in the custody of the Department of Corrections.
