TULARE, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) - A man was arrested and other drivers are sought in Tulare after a woman was run over Sunday evening, the Tulare Police Department announced.
Police say around 8:15 p.m. they responded to a 9-1-1 call reporting a dead person in the roadway near Cross Avenue and Mooney Boulevard.
Officers say when they arrived they found a 32-year-old Tulare woman who died, despite life-saving efforts.
Investigators determined the woman had been walking back from a store when she was hit by a vehicle traveling northbound on Mooney Boulevard. The driver of the vehicle, police identified as 26-year-old Dominick Nunez of Visalia, later returned to the scene and police say he confessed he fled due to fear.
Police say he was cooperative with the investigation but was ultimately arrested on suspicion of Felony Hit and Run. Officers say had the driver remained on scene, it is likely he would not have been arrested.
Investigators believe the woman was struck by additional vehicles that fled the scene and ask anyone with information about these drivers to contact the Tulare Police Department at 559-684-4290.
