LAS CRUCES, N.M. (KRQE)—New Mexico State University is unveiling a new mural on Tuesday to celebrate the National Day of Racial Healing. NMSU said the "Homecoming" mural uplifts three historical watershed moments that happened near the university: the Pueblo Revolution of 1680, the Mexican Defection of 1848, and the Black migration to New Mexico in the early 1900s.

School officials said the mural celebrates the marking of these lands as the heart of civilization in the Western hemisphere, especially in the area now known as the White Sands. The mural was created by six local artists and two NMSU art students.
NMSU invited the community to their Las Cruces campus Tuesday evening at 4:30 p.m. for food, music, healing activities, and the unveiling.
