Peace House’s Puente Comunitario returns with monthly discussions open to everyone
Jan 20, 2025
Puente Comunitario will kick off its 2025 lineup of community information sessions on Thursday.“I am thrilled to announce that Puente Comunitario is restarting,” said Jenifer Heredia, outreach specialist at Peace House and the director of Puente Comunitario. “I’m especially excited to welcome our first presenter of the year, Flor Santa Maria from the Park City Library, who will be joining us to share valuable insights and resources for our community.” The free session for people of all backgrounds will be held from 5:30 to 7:30 at the Peace House building, 700 Round Valley Drive, Park City. Puente Comunitario is a primarily Spanish-speaking community group that provides information on various topics impacting Summit and Wasatch counties through lively discussions with expert speakers. The initiative by Peace House, a nonprofit that has been serving survivors of family violence and abuse for the past 29 years, started last year. “(This year) I am focusing some months on having some of the Peace House staff speak about their individual services as well as provide more education and information surrounding Peace House Services,” said Heredia. The nonprofit is trying to increase awareness in the community about the depth of support and resources that it offers. Each meeting, held on the fourth Thursday of the month, brings together community members, local nonprofits and experts to discuss a range of topics related to health, safety, financial services, education and more. These meetings provide an opportunity for participants to learn about resources available to them and engage with local organizations committed to supporting the community. To ensure accessibility for all attendees, presentations are available in Spanish and English, with translation provided for each class. Peace House also offers staff-led child care during the event.“We want people to come with an open mind and an open heart,” Heredia said. “It’s about learning not only what we offer here at Peace House, but also what the broader community offers to all of us.”Another way that Peace House aims to reduce barriers to participation is by hosting these meetings on its easily accessible campus, which is reachable via public transit and incorporating dinner into the program each night so that attendees aren’t rushing to and from after work. Puente Comunitario welcomes everyone, with a particular focus on Spanish-speaking residents, to join the conversations and learn about available resources and services. For more information about Puente Comunitario, upcoming events and other community resources, visit Peace House’s website at peacehouse.org or contact them at (435) 658-4739.The post Peace House’s Puente Comunitario returns with monthly discussions open to everyone appeared first on Park Record.
